“Can there be such thing as a just war?”

I believe that there is no such thing as a just war for many reasons. A ‘just’ war is a right war and i believe no war is right. I think that every war is wrong, horrendous and appalling. Some people may actually think there are ‘just’ wars but everyone has their own views.

One reason to why I believe there is no such thing as a ‘just’ war is that in every single war, thousands of innocent people are killed. Not only is it soldiers that fall to their deaths but civilians. Civilians that don’t even have anything to do with the war, are slaughtered. People die by either being shot, cut or having a bomb falling over their heads. Some are even kept captives by their enemies and are then murdered by their captors. IS are a brutal group of radicals who will kidnap anyone and butcher them on camera and show it to thousands, sending a warning. They kill people so they can try to boost their power. They frighten people and show them what would happen to them if anyone goes against them. Not only IS do this but other groups do this, especially in war.

In WW2, Hitler killed millions of Jews. These Jews had not done anything wrong but Hitler still murdered them. He killed them because he hated them. He just hated them and killed them. That is wrong. He created wars because of this and then millions and millions of people all fell into their graves because of this. During the Blitz 40,000-43,000 thousands of British people had lost their lives. All due to the Germans dropping bombs on them. Those British people most likely wanted nothing to do with war, however it came to them. They were helpless. Also in WW2 America had dropped an atomic bomb on Japan. More than 146,000 people were killed by this. America dropped this war just so they can stop the war, but it killed thousands of innocent people. Do think these people wanted this? In just one war over 75 million people lost their lives. Is that right?

War is also wrong because not only did millions of people died but the destruction left behind for the survivors is unbelievable. After every war wreckage is left behind. Loads of people suffer. They suffer whether they have no food, no shelter or even they lost someone close. With no food even more people would die causing more casualties. No shelter would mean no protection from the worst weathers and nothing to block the icy wind in the night. People would mourn over their late love ones and grief stretches out far. Not only does all this happen but money, payments cause issues. People’s salary drop by a load. This makes it more challenging for getting food or getting shelter. This period is known as a ‘Great Depression’. After WW1, Australia had suffered tremendously from the Great Depression. They had to live years in poverty which did cause a few deaths.

Another reason to why i believe there is no such thing as a ‘just’ war is the actual reason of a war. Mainly the reasons of a war is greed. Greedy people may want more land, profits or even want to conquer the world, create wars. So just because people desired this they killed millions. Is this right? Israel have been in conflict with Palestine just so they can get more land, but that means Palestinians have nowhere to go. Is that right? WW2 was started just because Hitler wanted to rule the world. He killed millions. Is that just? Britain wanted to build their empire. They weren’t that much bothered that they could kill millions just so they can reach their goal.

These are reasons to why  believe that there is no such thing as a just war. I’m sure many other people would agree with me. Maybe some people may agree with me and possibly have other arguments to why they believe there is no such thing as a just war. Other people ,however, might disagree with me and they would have good arguments backing up their points. But this is my view and points.

HW War Experience

My Grandma’s Experience During the Bangladesh Liberation War

In 1971 a war broke out in Bangladesh, which at the time was known as East Pakistan. The reason of this war was because East Pakistan wanted to break away from West Pakistan since West Pakistan had been taking the East Pakistan’s money and were binding them behind bars. So as this war started, many lives were affected and most of the elders in my family had experienced the pain and horrors of this war. Although many of my family members have vivid experiences I have decided to write only about my dad’s mother, my grandma.

As the war began my grandma and her family were in a lot of danger as they had lived in the second biggest city in East Pakistan, Sylhet. In Sylhet there were many Hindus and the West Pakistanis despised them. So they would slaughter any Hindu. This made life even more dangerous for my grandma. My grandma’s family was the only family to have a brick house and underneath the house was a bunker, where the neighboring family would come and hide during air raids. My grandma had told me that when they were all in the bunker people would pray for their safety and were petrified. She also told me that luckily no bombs landed near her house except for one, which had actually gone really deep within the Earth that it made not much affect but it did send a load of debris onto the brick house. The debris had chipped the bricks and left holes in the structure.

Gathering food was very hard for my grandma’s father and the neighbors, so when ever they could get their hands on food they would get as much as they could. Everyone would share out the food they had, however it wasn’t enough and many people would starve.

When things seemed it couldn’t get worse my grandma’s mother had died from cancer. Her and her siblings were even more terrified and upset. To lose a mother in a war must be hard for anyone.

The war had begun getting even more intense, therefore my grandma and her family evacuated to their village. The villages were less affected than the cities but people were still frightened if an army decided to attack them. Life in the village was much better than the city as they manged to get more food and it didn’t have to be shared between a crowd of people. Everyone had their own storage for food.

When war began to die out my grandma and family had returned to the city. When they returned they were gobsmacked by the wreckage. Almost every house had been burnt down. Families that had stayed had been murdered. Women had been raped and abused by the West Pakistan soldiers. My grandma’s neighbors next door were a Hindu family of four girls. Two had escaped to India and were safe but the other two had experienced the abuse. Some close friends to my grandma were killed or abused as well.

As the war came to an end and India teamed with East Pakistan they managed to defeat West Pakistan. Bangladesh had been born. Although the joy of freedom filled the Bangladeshis many of them were still distraught over the trauma they went through. For my grandma building life back up again was a struggle but they managed.

HWK4- Writing- Independent

It happened four years ago. I don’t know why? No one does. It just did. I don’t know how either. But it happened. I don’t think it meant something. Or did it? And most importantly, I don’t know why it happened to me. Out of all the people in the world, it had to happen to me. Why? How? Why me…
